Deirdre Finnegan is a classic “triple threat” – singing, dancing and acting in the Philadelphia area for over 20 years as well as working on the “other side of the table” as a director/choreographer. A graduate of University of the Arts with a degree in Musical Theatre, Deirdre has worked with everyone from preschoolers to Broadway stars. As a choreographer and /or director, she has worked at the Arden Theatre Company, Theatre Horizon, Radio City Music Hall, The University of the Arts, Upper Darby Summer Stage and Hedgerow Theatre as well as many schools including Cheltenham High School. She is a member of Actor’s Equity Association and has performed with Mazeppa Productions, Theatre Horizon, The Prince Music Theatre , Hedgerow Theatre, Atlantic City and many other venues.
Of one of her roles, Inquirer critic Jim Rutter had this to say:
“Finnegan’s gorgeous phrasing and complex portrayal weaves together her characters’ multiple emotional threads into a vivid portrait of cherishing, regret, and hope.”
As a singer, Deirdre transcends genre: Rock, folk, blues, jazz, American Songbook, classical, liturgical, musical theater- you name it- she does it. In addition to her “day” job as a busy professional soloist at many Philadelphia area churches, she leads a rock cover band (Traction) belting out Blondie, Zeppelin and David Bowie at local watering holes, private parties, and community events including the Appel Farm Wine and Music Festival. Equally comfortable with jazz standards or Janis Joplin, Deirdre has created several unique Cabarets performing at various venues including Dino’s Backstage in Glenside. A consummate entertainer, she utilizes a director’s eye, comedian’s sensibility, Irish storytelling ability and expansive vocal range to create personalized evenings of entertainment in which there is truly something for everyone. Deirdre lives in Glenside, PA with her husband and 3 kids.
