Dino J. Kelly-Cataldi is a legend in the restaurant business. His background in accounting and business, and successful restaurant experience is a real asset to Dino’s Backstage.
Dino was the owner and driving force behind the successful Napoleon Café & Restaurant, Philadelphia’s Premier Coffeehouse, Restaurant & Bar from 1989-1997. It originated in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia and quickly become one of Philadelphia finest destination restaurants. It was best described in the Philadelphia Inquirer by food critic Elaine Tait when she wrote, “It is easily the best looking coffeehouse and restaurant this side of Vienna.” One of the dining patrons described Napoleon as – “A Skyscraper in the Desert.”
Napoleon received both local and national acclaim, receiving Gourmet Magazine’s “Top Ten Tables in America” award and recognition in Food and Wine Magazine. The restaurant was named Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best of Philly”® Award a record seven times, and top Zagat and Mobile Travel Guide ratings. In addition Napoleon received the honorable James Beard Award and was a member of the prestigious Chaine des Rotisseurs ™.
In 1995, after the catastrophic tire fire underneath Interstate 95 near Napoleon, the decision was made to move the entire operation to Center City Philadelphia. It was located at the corner of 15th & Locusts Streets and part of the bustling theatre district scene with 230 seats and employing over 60 full and part time employees serving both lunch and dinner seven days a week. Business revenues exceeded any and all expectations until construction on the surrounding property by the City of Philadelphia and PATCO curtailed operations. This construction lasted a year and seven months and was the demise of a successful nine-year restaurant.
In recent years, Dino has been very successful in business as the Controller for ZAC Management Group, LLC, Steven E. Fishman, and related entities. ZAC Management Group, LLC is a back office support term for over 80 active entities. Dino maintains his post at ZAC while overseeing all the daily operations of Dino’s Backstage with the assistance of his life long partner, Entertainment Director and Manager, Michael Richard Kelly-Cataldi and General Manager, Thomas Finnegan.
